IFGA Classes

  • The following are the standard classes recognized by the International Fancy Guppy Association.  All pictures on this site will be labeled by this standard.  The guppies are first divided into divisions by tail shape and then divided further in to classes by caudal color.

  • There are three main tail shapes for the males - delta, veil and sword (both single and double).  This year a provisional class has been added for roundtails.

  • Many breeders will give their color strains fancy names, some to be descriptive, some just for marketing purposes, but to be eligible for showing, guppies must fall into the following classes.

  • This list is not set in stone and has been changed many times over the years to accommodate the hobby, adding colors as they have gained popularity and dropping others because they lacked support.

Deltas

Deltas must be a triangle of 55-75 degrees,

with 60-70 being ideal.

Red - Reds can vary from the very dark grey body strains to the bright gold body strains. This gup is Gold Red, the most popular form of Red shown in the IFGA.

H/B Red - Half Black Red must have a true half black body and  clean red finnage.  Finnage color can range from light to almost mahogany.

Blue - Blue can range in color from light sky blue to dark, almost black.  This gup is a medium shade.   Blues may change shades or even color under certain lighting.

H/B Blue - Half Black Blue must have a true half black body and blue finnage.  The blue can range from light, such as this gup, to almost black.

Green - Green can range from a very light mint color to a very dark forest green color, such as this gup.  Greens like blues may change shades or even color under certain lighting.

H/B Green - Half Black Green, as with all half blacks must have the true black body.  The finnage may range in shade just as that of its counterpart Green.
